Hey guys.
I'm just wondering about re-painting the door trim/dash etc on an EF. What I want to know is whether or not that squishy stuff the door handles are made of will hold standard paint, or am I going to get something a little stronger... Anyone had any experience with repainting/coloring the interior on an EF? EDIT: I meant EF

So is it a EF or a EL ?
I've used proper paint for leather/vynil/plastic. larger shoe stores have a vast colour selection to choose from. |

Ive recolored mine.
For vinyl, use vinyl dye For the plastics, use a plastic primer, and many (read) MANY coats of chosen colour (esp on things like the dor handles. Some tips, Dont be lazy with this job, i've seen a fair few members that have done a half a*** job, like not painting switch surrounds/aircon vents, take your time and it will show. the dash (vinal) can be done in car, just mask it up heaps, and have a alot of ventilation. steer clear of white, ive NEVER seen that come out well. any other q's? |

hey mate i did the dash surround near the cluster and around the cd player and gear stick i painted it pearl i did it perfessonally the pearl paint it looks good

I'm about 3/4 way through recolouring my interior. Used the VHT colour dye for the vinyls. Came out pretty good. THe plastic parts had a plastic primer on them first before a few coats of colour. pics in gallery

Vinyl die is good for most surfaces I think, and mine is lasting well too.
Also, are you from the States? If so, all well and good, but if not.... COLOUR, it's COLOUR. lol.

VHT is the stuff to use.
With my experience, preperation is the key. Clean the surface very well first. |

DO NOT use vinyl dye on the rubber arm rests... my brother tried it and it scratches off pretty easy, it can not sink into the rubber and sits on top
yes we did clean them thoroughly and dried them off before spraying but the vinyl dye does not stick like normal paint in my opinion, vinyl dye is made to sink into materials instead of stick on top... i think the dash and door trims we sprayed in vinyl dye and have not had a problem with it at all for the rubber handles i suggest a plastic primer and a few coats of paint that is what i used on mine and it seems quite a lot more durable i know the rubber isnt solid but honestly when does it ever bend and how much would it expand on hot days for the paint to crack or anything?

sorri if im hijacking the thread, but i didnt really wana start another one when this one was already there. Just a quick question, im looking at paintting the dash surrounds (on my ED, cluster surround, air con surround, clock,cd, and ashtray surrounds). Do i just use Plastic paint primer and heaps of coats of the colour i want, or that VHT stuff u guys were talking about? cheers and sorry again
