Just curious as to how much work is involved in changing the roof light from a standard fitting to the one with the map reading lights? Wat has to be done to change it? Cheers.

All you need is the dome light itself, and the bracket that is used to attach to the stock bracket already in the car.

I believe you need a extra power wire to run the map lights as the main interior light is also controlled by the headlight switch, the map lights are independant of this.

So where am i able to run the extra power wire from? Is it easy enough for a beginner like myself to do?

I think it depends what dome light you are talking about here - the one found in Futuras, Fairmonts, Ghias and XR's or the ones found in Fairlanes ?

You need the plastic base plate if you are talking about fitting the Fairlane one...but just for the mid series dome lamp you shouldn't need to run any other wires...I added the mid series one to my gf's EL Gli in 5 minutes - easy as...the Fairlane on is the same deal too - no additional wires need to be added - the circuit is pretty easy to follow once you take a look at it.

Cheers,
Steve

you don't need to run any new wires just tap the wire for your map lights in to the green with yellow stripe wire should be +12 all the time.

works on my ED Falcon GLI no probs.

So what do i need to do? Do i just undo the one that's there and then just chuck the new one up? It's the mid series one.

Yep, thats pretty much it !

Depending on how the old one was removed, you might need to solder the connections up, but apart from that, the mid series dome lamp pretty much connects directly up without any dramas.

if you have just the dome interior light remove that and you should have two wires on the back of it not sure of the colours. mine are green with yellow stripe and black with blue stripe connect them to the main interior light of the new one around the same way you took them off you should have one prong left at the front bridge that prong to the live wire (green and yellow on mine) you will know what i mean when you see it.
