Fair enough................I looked and decided with out trying. My HVAC box was rooted anyway so I swapped it out.

Did you change everything over with the airbox in situ? If so, I take my hat off to you........... I looked at the blend door motor and there was no way I was going to stuff around with that with the air box in the car, so out she came!!!

You are right tho the whole thing is worth it. It is not that hard, but it is definately time consuming!!!!

Yeah the Fairmont box was rooted with mine hence why I swapped the parts over instead. My XR6 one was in perfect condition.

Yeah I had to pull it out, there wasnt anyway I could see how to get the blend door motor installed in such a tight space.

Oh and also I went and bought a climate control temp sensor from Ford today, $123!! F*ck me! Talk about price gouging!

Which sensor is that? Ambient, cabin, sun load etc? It seems pretty steep for something which is essentially made up of nothing!

I assume you tried a wreckers first!

I've got the CC 'bug' now
Started collecting some bits from the wreckers on Friday off an NL Fairlane. Got all the bits off the airbox, plus all the looms for $20 :D .

Gave me an idea of the degree of difficulty . . .

Since I don't have the CC unit, or the Ambient air sensor, I suppose that's where most of the other $$$ will go . . . .

The donor car had the bumper and radiator gear already gone - can any one tell me where exactly the Ambient air sensor is, as the doco says inside the bumper, and my manual says on the radiator upper support ??

Cool, I figured I'd have to do some cutting. Any idea what that connector (and the 'strings' behind it)does?
The standard resistor assy looks like coiled wires, and sits in the heaterbox for what I'd guess is cooling - since it has air passing through them, as they would get hot. The fan speed controller has a heatsink that does this instead, so it also sits in the heaterbox airstream.

Some good photos - whats with the EF Green BEM - is it an incidental pickup - I don't recollect it being needed for a CC upgrade.

I think he's referring to the coolant temp sensor - the CC gathers coolant temp from the ECU.

Im not sure with EF/ELs, but EA-ED ran a coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing specifically for the climate control. It replaces the hex headed bolt thats in the lesser models.

On EA-ED its part of the loom that goes to the horn.
If EF-EL is the same, the lesser models will have an empty plug near that area, and obviously the upper models will have a sensor attached to it.

not quite empty ... the high series engine loom has two extra wires going into the same plug which attaches to the horn plug. Those two go to the ambient sensor in the bumper - same plug just two more wires.

The Ambient Temp sensor - if you have a look at the top of your air intake in teh front bumper just where the mesh does a "v" in the center - you should see a couple of holes, that's where it goes.

EF/EL's just have the hex plug, and as mentioned get coolant temp from the ECU.

Thanks Guys also for the Ambient Temp sensor info . . . :D

I'm pretty sure it's an EL green BEM, it came as a freebie with all the other parts. And yeah I don't beleive it's needed for the upgrade.

I've found my wagon has the two wires up to the horn plug - I'm guessing those two wires will go back through the firewall and end at the next connector, perhaps the white one behind the fusebox - just a case of finding them . . :o
My ute has the same, but the sensor plug is there (WTF ??)
So just a case of removing the terminals from the horn plug, and hooking it up in the wagon . . . :D

Unfortunately, I'll think you'll find it's an EF. This is the BEM out of that NL Fairlane I was scrounging, the EL High series should be the same - my wagon's one is the same shape, but Blue.

I was told it was out of an EL Fairmont Ghia. But I guess it makes sense as the CC unit has black buttons (EF).
