The light for the digital numbers has blown or shorted or something electrically stuffed and I cant read it. The unit is still working because you can just see the numbers very faintly. I need to know how to pull the unit from the dash and either replace it or fix the short/replace globe.

The light for night viewing works, and by that I mean the one that lights the words on the right for each setting (L/100km, InstantL/100ks etc) but the digital numbers dont work at all.

I am praying that I dont have to pull the dash out because with the premium sound I bet it'll be a bastard.

Any help would be appreciated.

The blue LED conversion doc has a short how-to on removing the main dash fascia, which you'll probably need to do to get at the trip compy:

http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=1

The Premo sound shouldn't be much harder to remove than the mid series or basic decks as both utilise similar sorts and numbers of plugs.

About 7 screws and its off.....no trouble, then just unclip the wires for the fuel door filler, the boot release, clock/trip computer wire, climate control wire and door lock button - you don't have to pull the stereo out or anything. You could have it off it 5 minutes easily. Also just gotta take the stereo surround off, ash tray out and unplug the light for the cigarette lighter and light for the cigarette lighter surround

it's woahfully simple, it's just a basic globe, popping it out would be hard, and not recommended in risk of crazking something, I changed the colour of my dash, and looked @ the trip computer light, it's very very easy, it's the same type of globe that lights up the floors. Anywayz, u have the take out the facia of the dash, including the part surrounding ur stereo, in total u have approx, 12 screws to take out. but trust me, if u know anything about lights, it's very easy, the light unclips, u replace it, all done :). let me know how u go

I got the dash front out no problem. I was amazed it was only 10 minutes to do that.

The bulb had blown but I think you can only get them from Ford, because the legs are soldered onto some small clips that sit inside the holder. I bought a couple of globes from s**t but I dont think the legs will contact properly so I'll have to wait for Ford to open tomorrow.

I go the seperate bulb to work but I'm not happy because the legs are not soldered onto the metal clips.

What do you reckon leave it as is or get a Ford one that will have better contacts on the metal clips?

Depends how much money you got?

Just let it go for now, see what happens.

There are three different instrument light type bulb holders that I know of (found this out during a LED conversion) Blue (bulb is soldered crimped), White & Black (bulb pulls out) - there may be others, but these are most common. I'd try the wreckers first, as Ford are pretty expensive - $4-$5 per globe IIRC. Bring a multimeter to check them, as they are a bit fragile. Some of the WA boys may have some spare, particularly if they've done LED conversions, might be worth a post to see if they can help . . . .

Does that include the bulb holder too or is it just the bulb and the metal clips?

I just put the globe in and wrapped the legs around the metal clip. I couldnt be a*** to solder them.

If Ford are only supplying the globes and not the metal clips than that is just wrong. Such a fiddly little item. Should of been made simpler.
