Whats the correct way to install an EF/EL steering wheel?
I'm mainly worried about the airbag, some people say dont disconnect the battery - some people say you do. Some people say you don't pull the airbag fuse and others say you do.. Whats the proper way to do it without it going off?

Always disconnect the airbag or remove the terminal on the battery before pulling this unit.

A couple of questions:
1. The airbag doesnt need the battery to deploy according to the airbag srs document in vehicle modifications so would this really stop anything? 2. wont unplugging my battery reset the ecu?

okay mate
here goes it disconnect the negative battery terminal... wait 5 minutes... then unscrew the bolts on side of wheel carefully take off bag.. try not to bang it... and place it so bag faces up.. then unhook the horn bits and peices.. and the bits the the clock spring is connected to (round thing is clock spring) then get the torque screw thingy i forget what its called... star shaped f**k and unscrew the bolt in the center and its pretty much suck eggs from there mate

i literally just did one then for azza fitting his new DU LTD steering wheel. easy as. i've done 3 now & haven't reset the battery - i have kept the airbag not pointing towards my face at all, and have just handeled it carefully - i'm not interested in disconnecting my ECU as my idle is rather fragile!
the wheel itself is pretty easy - pop off the two side covers, undo the 2 x 10mm bolts holding the airbag in, remove airbag, unplug hord connectors from wheel, undo 3 screws holding surround on. then you need the t-50 torx bit to undo the wheel - but don't undo it all the way. you will then need to try & rip the wheel off - not easy! keep the bolt on so that when it finally comes off, you don't go flying backwards! then, the reverse!

its hard to take off the wheel
smash it with your fist on the left then the right a few times then top then bottom and just keep on trying to wriggle it off

These is actually 2 threaded holes in the steering wheel, I think they are M8. Just use a harmonic balancer puller and 2 M8 bolts, that makes it safe and easy.
