Hi guys got a bit of a laugh and a mind job for you all.
For a little while now the cruise control has been playing up, work only when it feels like.....abit like some people i know. Just recently it has completly died. It still lights up and all but just wont engage at all or hold any speed. incidentially i found out in one of my fits of rage that when i hold down the ON and the SET (-) buttons together the horn goes off.....WTF This kind of confirms what i first thought, that it was a wiring prob, most likely a loose wire somewhere or touching plugs. Anyone got any ideas and where should i be looking etc. Thanks |

Try under the airbag for a start (I assume EF-AU model).

Thats normal.
Theres only a few combinations and resistances you can use with three wires. horn, set speed, on etc holding on and set creats a short for the horn. I think you can do it with resume and neg as well. First check the brake light switch or evidence of the lights being on when driving. Check you have the right globes in the brakes too. then look at the cable on the cruise control module.

I don't think the Cruise control buttons have anything to do with the horn, I would suspect the clock spring has failed shorting the horn circuit to the Cruise control circuit.

Just had a mess around with the cruise buttons in our fairmont. Got the horn to beep once pressing the on and set (-) buttons. Could not get it to do it again.....
I can see how it would work, but I would have expected it to do it everytime.....interesting little quirk. The cruise buttons do opperate over the same wires as the airbag and the horn in the ef/el's. Each button completes the circuit with a different resistance.
