e6 I to am interested in this theory. I presume that the switch's are a rocker/momentory switch and I have no trouble with the window and power switchs down near the auto. I trust that someone has done this before ??

Well I assume you could. Flush mount them into somewhere and run wiring off the wires leading on/around the steering column and they should work in theory.
I am only assuming on this, but if the wires are still flowing then they should work. SHOULD. In theory. |

i thought the cruise control switches worked with the stock cruise switches only in the original wheel, i nearly got an ED XR8 wheel for my old NA with the switches, but was too expensive.

the wires for the cruise run up the steering column, how bout fitting an after market tree to the column like what the earlier holdens did. its only 3 switches and 4 wires from memory. Common, set +, set - and coast.

or just get an original steering wheel put back on.

From memory, the switchs used are normal momentary switches, but due to not being able to run wires down the steering column due to the fact that the wheel twists, they use variable resistance. You have your metal contact ring on the back of the wheel, and just one contact. When you press the horn, it shorts straight to earth, and the BCM detects it as being the horn and therefore sounds the horn. Each of the four buttons and the horn have a different level of resistance. The cruise set button for instance might be 400 ohm, while the resume might be 600. Im not sure on the levels of resistance, but i think horn is direct to earth. Wouldnt be too hard to find out with a multimeter. Once this has been done, you can use any basic momentary switch. Or, you could just use the original wiring but then you have to figure out where to put them and make it look good. Good luck and keep us posted

e6 How did you go with this mod?? Or did you put the old wheel back on? |

Yes, this will be very easy. Tonight when I get home I will do up a drawing to show you how.
In the end it's just a few switches and a couple of resistors, IIRC.
