It was dreadful when I borrowed the folks ED and bought 2 take away coffees for me and a mate I was going to visit, got in
and thought 'what the hell am I going to do with these' so I sat there and drank them both. 'Sorry mate I drank your coffee'. :)

I'll have to have a look next time I'm at my parents place, but is there any way the mechanism out of an AU can be installed
in a slot cut out of the console of an EB/ED?

OK guys I know where these can be found .
they are standard fitment in toyotas like 97 Hilux which I had. I have seen them in others like Camry or similar. Have a hunt around at the wreckers.
I love the Territory cup holders and wonder if I can adapt it for the EF.
Did they seriously road test the stupid design at all? I have spilt so many drinks all over the console, carpet , seats etc.

You can get these ordered in from any supercheap ( or other parts stores).

'Aeropro' do them to fit in the space for vehicles that changed from a double din to single din cd player.

I don't know whether to get these, a simple pocket to put the phone or something, or a speaker to get 5.1 sound in my EF.

The aeropro ones are single din (not half din like these nissan ones) you need to do a LOT more cutting to make it fit, but as a bonus you get a coin tray (it however doesnt look as neat) i think ill have to go back at a later date and tidy mine up a LOT

Haven't you guys heard the old saying "Don't drink and drive, you might hit a bump and spill your drink"
I'm with troyman, don't eat or drink in the lane! That's the rule for the missus and kids anyway :D

Is there somewhere that shows how & what needs to be done for AU conversion?

obviously not.
rob's idea is the neatest and also the best.
the au console does not suit the early e-series at all.
