just put my dash back in the car after painting one of the surrounds in silver, and when i started the car up ( i also reset the battery while i was doing this) i now have a little flashing icon on the left bottom section under the tacho, its a little fan in what looks like a bottle of water or somewhat. like a tank of water you could say, with a fan in it. i checked coolent, oil, the lot, but this little icon wont piss off? anyone know what it is?

sounds like the coolant warning light. Check radiator.
If you've got a overflow bottle sensor it may be acting up, or you're low on coolant.

Yep thats definately the low coolant level indicator. You wont have low coolant, the flashing indicates a sensor fault.
It is either open circuit (unplugged), short circuited or faulty. Unplug it from the resivoir and measure it with a multimeter. You should get roughly 180 ohms with water or 1380 ohms without water (or the other way around, i can't remember).
