Hi folks, looks like I'm going to have to remove the dashboard 'cos my heater core is blocked. The manual says to remove the steering column.
Is this REALLY necessary? Or can the job be done by lowering the column as much as possible (after unbolting the support) Cheers |

What car? E series (EA thru EL) don't need to remove any steering columns. The manual may be meaning to unbolt the column from the dash, not remove it altogether....

i will presume it's a EL [?] which i think is similar re mounting to the EA/EB/ED......
i removed a dash from a EA [due to the big bracket supporting the column being damaged] and to get the steering wheel/column out of the way . . . i removed the drivers seat and dropped the steering wheel/column down so i had room to remove the dash. however next time i do one .... i will remove the bolts at the steering column base as well to [hopefully?? ] lessen any stress on the lower bearing [base of column, floor level] at that stage i was a 1st timer |

It's not a bad idea to remove the whole column - makes access a lot easier, and you'll appreciate it not being there when you go to install the dash, particularly by yourself.
Give yourself around half hour to get it out - most time is unbolting the base.
