When I select the windscreen demist function in my BA,
I can't seem to get any air blasting out from the top of the dash, even with the fan turned up high. The actual demist seems to work pretty well, as the AC is automatically engaged after pushing the demist button, but as mentioned the air flow is only just noticable, and the fan speed makes no difference. Is this normal?? |

Nope. Doesn't sound normal to me. When I go to demist-only there's definitely a gale up there.

dont know bout BA but my EBII used vacuum hoses for the air con. but maybe in the BA isnt the same, but what i think is that maybe a vacuum hose has unplugged / perished...........

BA uses a HIM module which operates levers to open and close vents. Possible reasons for no demist are failed HIM module, Shaft dislodged from HIM module or broken shaft.

depends if you wanna pull the dash out yourself or pay someone to do it.
I think from memory the HIM module (if that is the problem) is worth $300-$400, although i do have a couple in the shed i may be able to part with if that turns out to be the problem. |

I won't be pulling the dash out myself, that's for sure.... way beyond my expertise. I rang my local Ford place here and they were not familiar with the problem, so perhaps I'll drop the car in there for a diagnosis. Perhaps not, if they've never heard of the problem. The information here is more useful than the Ford mob in town can offer !!! If it comes to mega-bucks for a dash removal and repairs, I may well forget it altogether....... We'll see. if you were closer i'd offer to take a look for you.
BA/BF/Territory dash's are pretty easy to R+R. At one stage i could do a R+R of a HIM module in under 2 hours. Its amazing what repetition does for you though. I'll upload some diagrams for you tomorrow through the day so you can see how it all fits together. |

Mate, you wouldn't believe it, but it seems to have started
working OK now.....!! Mind of its own I spoze, but I am happy that all seems to be functioning. Still, I'd be keen to see some diagrams of what goes on in there. Xpression, thanks also for the attention to the issue generally, it is certainly appreciated. You have helped me a number of times here on FM. Cheers. |
