G'day guys,
Been doing a bit of research about painting plastics and what not. The seats in my car are looking pretty scraggy these days and it does cost for a interior seat steam clean and shampoo, this will be the only option if I can't find another. Also my door cards are looking the same. Heard about allot of people spraying their seats with dye spraypaint (vht) or something along those lines. So what are some solutions other than taking it to a car wash to get steam cleaned and shampoo'd or getting the interior redone. Any information would be great. |

I attacked mine with some warm soapy water (washing detergent...smells good and bubbles well) a medium stiffness bristled brush, sponge and rags. However this was when the seats in the car were removed so it was much easier doing it outside the car.
Brush the dirtiest areas with the brush, sponge away excess soap and use the rags to dab dry. Let it sit to air dry. Worked a charm and is still pretty clean now besides the sand everywhere.

Might give that another go,
Have done it before but did nothing. The thing that stained it was ironically interior carpet cleaner. |

i just did the seats in my ed with a upolstry/carpet cleaner..
it worked good, but any stains that have been sponged or cleaned previously are brought to the surface when using a carpet cleaner, so in my case i had to do the seats twice.. there now as clean as new.. |

Also if you can be bothered, you can always pull the seat covers off and give them a good clean and hung out in the line. PITA to remove though.

What Cleaner did you use?
No idea what I used, it was a foam you were meant to leave on the material then massage off with a special brush. |

eucalyptus oil, hot water, soft brush/sponge and some elbow grease will make a noticeable difference

I'll give washing detergent and the eucalyptus oil a go.
Also going to paint the interior door handles matte black, know how to take off the chrome handle bit? Head you can just use some degreaser and spray with some light coats of that vht dye pressure pack paint? Cheers for the ideas guys, just trying to get my car to look as best it can. I do use snap on car seat covers, but theyre a loose fit and get annoying to fix up everytime you sit on them. |

Hey mate,
In regards to the seats, pull them out and pressure wash them and then use the car wash vac to suck the bulk of the water out. Done that with a few cars and it works a treat! Cheers Paul. |

Cheers bud, sounds like a great idea, reckon you could take them out and use a normal steam clean mop, then vacuum the excess out?

I guess, as long as it was a wet vac.. But i dont mean a steam cleaner, i mean the high pressure soap and rinse you'd wash your car with.
A friend of mine that works at a used car yard detailing cars, uses a karcher pressure washer and a wet vac. |

Oh I see, well Ill give the simpler methods a go first if they fail then time to get the seats out.

This might sound silly, but it's worked EVERY time for me, get some of that $2 engine degreaser, spray up the seats (waste almost a whole can on the front seats, and another whole can on the back seats) and scrub REALLY well with a rag, then get some upholstrey cleaner, and do it again, gets the seats spotless, the upholstrey cleaner is more to get rid of the degreaser smell than anything else, the degreaser gets it clean, and beleve it or not, wont damage the seats.

i just used a carpet and upholstery spray on cleaner the other day and wiped off with a cloth, door cards and seats came up like new, and all the material was nice and soft
