i am tring to figure out why my headlights suck so much, car behind me have more of an effect on the road ahead than i do :(

then i noticed that if i put the stereo near 1/2 volume at night my headlights visably dip with each bass boom. what would cause this.

p.s. i dont have a sub/amp, just 250w 6" fronts, and 350?w 6*9"s

p.p.s the electronics forum is looking like a good idea wink wink nudge nudge ;)

thanks
Rushed

Possibly the altenator is about to s**t itself. About two years ago, my car was badly dimming lights (i have a 12" sub) and the volt gauge was dropping to about 12v with each bass pump and when thermos would come on would almost reach the bottom unless you lifted revs up a bit. My electrician said it was brushes on altenator (around $60) or the armature (bin it). Either repair or get one from wreckers about the same price

do u have a capacitor (i think thats what it is) I had a mate with a torrie and his headlights was doin the morsecode when the sound was up. That was after his own "install" then he went and seen a audio jukie who rigged it up properly.

Worked great for 2 weeks till he pranged it.

He shouldnt need a capacitor. His system isnt strong enough. I am running ~1500W RMS from 2 amps, and I dont have a capacitor. I have no probs with my lights dimming.
It prolly is the alternator

Yeah capacitor would be overkill. Like I said, my lights rarely dim down nowadays since replacing brushes on mine. Some altenators can be changed at home just by removing altenator and replacing a small black box (also called a regulator).

This also might be a problem with your low beam headlight relay. Try swapping it with the starter relay (I think they are the same color).

throw HIDs in
better light, and they draw less power so they dont dim with current draw from amps etc.

as aaron has documented in the past look at batt/alt combonations, he said the stock alt isnt really too bad, have to spend a few bucks to get a little bit stronger but with caps money better spend on a bigger battery. i used to have that dimming prob then i bought a 9core 550a massive a** battery bye bye problem.

Optima yellow tops retail for about 400
i can get these thru a contact for around $330 if anyones interested

Thats what i had in the fairlane

also upgrade teh earth wire near teh fuse box ( the one that goes from the car to the battery) i changed mine to 4gauge and has a significant improvement
I also changed my alternator wire to battery from teh 8gauge to 4 gauge
