This issue decided to rear it's head on Friday night (was fun driving half way accross the city with the passenger having to hold the door shut so it doesn't fly open).

Basically the rear right door lock is stuck in the "open position". It won't latch shut. Is this a actuator problem or a door lock problem? Is it fixable or a replacement necessary? Anyone experienced this before?

I have pulled off the door trim but the sound deadening material (or whatever it is, keeps water out?) seems to be very hard to remove without completely butchering it.

Any help much appreciated as I cant drive the car until I have this sorted.

it'll be the latch. safely cut away the deadener glue using a razor blade and replace the latch. i think there are two locking rods and 3 bolts (hex head i think) holding it in
