Take internal door trim off and with window fully up, look at the bottom of the glass where u will find the metal bracket that holds the glass and attaches to the regulator. Loosen the two bolts and moove the glass to the rear of the door and whilst holding in that position tighten the bolts. Check and see if this fixes it. The runners wear and allow the glass to move diagonally as u said . this is designed to prevent this.
Hope this helps

After a while the force used to close the door of a car, especially that on the drivers side, “bends†the window frame (The upper part of the door where the door ends and the window starts).
Attached picture shows where the door bends marked in red circles. Which is a very common problem on almost ALL cars and one of the reasons for the wind noise in the cabin and in worst cases rain/dust leaking in. To fix this problem: Open the door. Pull down the window totally. Bend the window frame by using your knee to push the door out(from the car), while pulling the upper part of the window frame in with your handsin towards the car body. Pull your window up and see if you notice any difference. Don not pull too hard. You may need to do this adjustment a couple of times or more until you get the right “BEND†to the window frame. That is when you can pull the window up and down easily. If this fails, try the other remedies suggested above.

i just converted my fronts to power (or steve did whilst i stood there and looked stupid) so ive got the manual window regulators to go. the passenger side is fine, i think the drivers side is on the way out as sometimes it would get stuck about half way. tho 99% of the time it was fine
