OK got me a oldy with a few issues.
Have just replqaced the blend motor and can now get plenty of hot air. Can't get the A/C to play. The compressor kicks in but drops out?? When it does kick in there are no bubbles in the Reciever Dryer? Any clues? Have checked all sensors except the high temp. where is it? Thanks all Hamish |

So what's happening? Is the compressor clutch engaging then disengaging just as quickly or is it engaging, staying engaged for a bit and then disengaging?
If it's the former then you may have a problem. That's indicative of the compressor being seized up. What's happening is the clutch is trying to engage the compressor only to meet the resistance of the seizure then disengaging to prevent the engine stalling. This happened to my old Corona and the mechanic that finally diagnosed it (the first guy I took it to said something was missing from the clutch) quoted 700 for a brand new unit which was 700 more than the car was worth so I never bothered getting it fixed.

When I start the car and switch on the A/C the compressor will run for 1min or so. Fluid flow is visible in the sight glass. Then for no aparent reson the clutch let go?
Think it may be the high temp sensor but i don't know where it is. Hamish |

I fixed it!! Compressor was kind of running but as I mentioned cutting out. It was the temp sensor but the fault was the compressor. Basically I cut all sensors out and ran the system. When the compressor smoked..... New compressor, a little gas and I'm cool again! Had four auto elecs stumped. If it hadn't been for the smoke it'd still be broke. Hamish |
