Well a while back mine got real tight to move, which i knew wasnt a good sign, now it seems to be broken, it still moves up and down but has no effect on where the air comes from (its stays on screen/feet) im assuming the cable that comes out the back and off to the passenger side of the car is the one that this lever actuates, and i suspect that there is a crappy plastic arm that controlls the blend door which is broken, do i have any chance of fixing this WITHOUT removing my dashboard?

This is confusing. By the sound of it you are talking about the vent control on a standard A/C (low series) rather than the blend door on a climate control (high series) system.

The blend door is actually in the heater box and blends cold air with hot air to control the temperature. Is this what you are talking about?

If as I suspect you are talking about the vent control I would say your actuator has seized and it is no longer moving the vacumn control that controls your vent vacumn. (Try saying that five time fast)

Check it out by removing your glovebox and trim near the golvebox. Get someone to move the control whilst you look at the air box itself. See what happens.......

Just fixed it, guess how much it set me back????

$0 it turns out the vacume line from the manifold had come loose (i discovered this AFTER i pulled my dash apart).

I bet it had something to do with my stupid car surging too.

passenger side of engine bay, youll see a green/blue coloured one first leading from high up on the firewall to below the intake manifold, near it is a black one, it should plug into the extension on the back of the intake manifold.

if you have any probs finding it i can put up a pic of what im talking about.

Ok so NEITHER your vent controll lever or blend door controlls are working?, might be a blocked vac line, or the switch is stuffed, im not really sure.

I've pulled apart the dash and the switch looks to be in working order. Any way I could check the vac line?

start the car, remove the line, and put your finger on it! If it sucks, its got vacuum. The door that controls the fresh/recirc air select has a flimsy little plastic piece that uses vacuum to shift it. if yours is stuck on fresh constantly, then this might be stuffed. Big job to fix properly, but doable. Gotta pull the whole left side of the dash out, and then the box itself so that you can fix it. other people have just screwed it in the recirc position though :P
