Hey Guy's,
I've gotten hold of some ED Fairmont Ghia Door Trims yestereday , the are the full velour ones. I have a few questions. How should I go about washing the door trims? The Clear on the Woodgrain is Pealing , I have a gloss estopol clear specific for wood that was bought from bunning's but if I remember rightly it came out a fair bit dark and I don't know why. What's the best way to re-clear them? The Driver's Side door is missing a ghia badge, does anyone have some spare ghia badge's lying around? because the wrecker's for the first time in my life don't have what I want . HOWEVER, I did ring ford, and they still stock XD Ghia Badge's. IS THE LOOK OF THE BADGE EXACTLY THE SAME? if not where is the best place to get just one badge? or do I have to go on EBAY and a SET of non gen one's? or where's the best place to get non gen one's in victoria? Thank's guy's ,

For the 3rd Question, I found this badge on EBAY.

Ok, well that says it metal where I believe they had plastics one in the ed's atleast they did in nc's, also I might have 1 or 2 floating around, but the pins will probably be broken, as it just about impossible to remove them without breaking the pins, I'll have a look after if your interested.

I think the pins are just there to so the badge don't fall off. dunno he might say it's metal when infact it's been chromed? like the ED. Have a look for me to see what you have floating around, the badge is about 40-42mm in length.

To clean the velour, try a nylon scrubbing brush and some warm soapy water to clean any dust off. If there's oil and grime, you can use a damp hand towel and some Preen. I used both these methods on an EB Ghia interior (I bought from someone in Bannockburn). Best done in summer when the velour dries out quickly.
With the peeling clear, you'll have to dry sand the surface with 600grit sandpaper to smooth off the worst bits and finish with a finer grit paper. Then get a pressure pack of gloss polyurethane & spray several light coats.

I do have a pressure pack of Gloss Polyurethane, but I don't know if it was because I did it thick or not, because when I did it it came out alittle darker than what I would have liked? I'll test it on a scrap piece of wood before clearing on mine. How many coat's did you do?

Before I did the El ghia door card swap, my EB wood trims were peeling. I sanded them back, stained them but didn't like how they came out. Re sanded them - then just put 4 coats of clear coat over them (again!), without staining them and they came up mint, all matching and very light natural finish - which suited the light grey interior.

We do have some stain in the shed, I'll test on scrap piece of wood first. What type of Stain did you use?

Thank's, I'll test it the clear on normal wood first, and if I don't like it then I'll do as you have suggested.

If you put a ghia badge on the drivers door trim where the passenger one is it will be hidden by the dash when the door is shut. This is why Ford didn't bother with two badges. |

Speedy that UK badge might have been from an old Cortina Ghia or Escort Ghia. or something like that.

For cleaning the trim, the best and easiest way is velvet soap and a scrubbing brush. Firstly hose the trim down, then scrub it with the soap. Scrub with the brush. Hose down again. Repeat. Leave to dry for a day or 2 (I've been told to leave it out of direct sunlight). I did this yesterday
Before (on right) After
