Hey has anyone out there ever attempted to change the handbrake around in an ED? I just want to know if its possible to put it next to the drivers seat like in an EF/EL, instead of lookin like a big d**k hanging out of my dash! Im sure it would involve alot of work but if anyone has ANY ideas or help it would be useful, thanks :)

it involves cutting and welding, I think that justifies a hard job... just buy an EL lol.

Cheers

haha yer thanks guys , i was thinking maybe it would just involve finding the cable and replacing it with an el one so that would be in the right place, and then getting an EF/EL centerconsole complete with handbrake next to it and just slot it in. But yer maybe im being a bit too ambitious atm lol. Thaniks for the help anyways

Yes and no. Youll need the ef console, which requires the ef dash. After that, the centre section from an ef is cutout with a grinder, the interior of the ed stripped back, and the piece is placed over top of the trans tunnel. If the piece removed is big enough it means you can bolt in ef seats to match the dash. Once its been trimmed to suit, the new section is stitch welded in place, with a bit of paint. After that, its pretty straight forward. Ill see if i can find some pics

Wow! that sounds awesome! It would be sweet if i could get some pics, but after hearing all that im thinking you might be right and that i would be better getting an EF lol, Unfortunately my current car beats stock EF/EL's so i guess ill have to just be happy with it atm. Nice idea but :S i dunno depends how crazily drunk i get one night lol. Could wake up to a sweet a** EF interior one morning lol.

Not to mention the EF/EL handbrakes utilise drum handbraking, so you'll have to rig up a system on the diff housing to use stock handbrake (callipers), or get an EF diff or so to use the drum handbrake idea.

Cheers

I am working on a doco for a PROPER and COMPLETE EF/EL interior fit to into an EA-ED.

This will involve a lot of work, so it will take me a while to get it finished.
