Is it the digital or the manual model? The manual DEFINITELY has quite a few air hoses in the back. You may be able to fix with heat shrink (or try something more "professional" like hose clamps and lengths of a larger hose placed over leaks...)

I don't know where all the REAL FordModers have got to (I am not at all very flash with anything mechanical..) but the digital unit has one big black flexi pipe going to it.

No easy fix other than to pull your stereo out, and start pulling out screws left right and center until you end up with three screws in dash above the instrument panel (behind top of steering wheel) that need to be pulled out too. Then drop the steering wheel towards the floor and wiggle the bit of plastic out. The fuel cap release switch and central locking switch can be unclicpped as you go (along with the rear demister, power aerial and rear wiper switches - depending on what options your car has).

Once you get that piece of plastic off (tell you what - I am going to upload a picture here --- The bit you want to take off is BLUE in my photo...)

Anyway, once you have got this far you'll be into the swing of it and should be able to follow your nose from here.

Please note --- CAR REMAINS TOTALLY DRIVABLE WITHOUT THIS PLASTIC IN. Sure looks ugly, but you can still drive the offending vehicle to the workshop if it's the only way to sort out the digital air-con.

Yes, as above, remove the climate control unit, detatch the breather pipe (large one on the bottom) and fetch out the soot/dust thats collected inside it (be careful not to remove the filter completely.

Test by covering your finger over the slot beneath the unit, if the noise stops or gets louder, I can only assume you've spotted the problem.

Over years dust builds up in the pipe and well..... makes thats kinda of jammed vacuum cleaner noise.
