How different are the wiring looms for EF and EL's? I realise that the ECU on the EL only has 60ish pins and therefore that loom is fairly different, but what about the loom from the dash?

Well, the BEM is quite different as well. They are not interchangeable. I also believe the plugs may be different in some instances.
It would be feasible to make it all come together, but would require a fair bit of rewiring. I think it depends on why, and how bad you need to do it. Why not just get the EL equivalent? BenJ

I might try and find a full loom from an NF Fairlane then. I've got the complete loom from an EL Ghia here, wanting to add all the luxury bits to my ride and neaten up the wiring, would be much nicer and easier to start with a complete loom.

Ahh ok, got it. Upgrade the EF XR Wagon.
A Fairmont loom will do also unless you want the door ajar setup. Will be nice when it is all done. I love all the modcons in my wagon. BenJ

If Rapier is still around have a chat to him. The main differences between EL and EF dash looms are one of the large connectors is different and the BEM is different.

BenJ That's it. The wagon is actually a GLi originally, so that makes it worse. I've got a Fairlane instrument cluster and the door sensors, so would be better for me to get a Fairlane loom. |

How did you go with your dash upgrade ? I have a nl dash in my ef I fitted the dash with out a problem just had to change the 16 pin plug on the lhs ,I am still working on the door lock sensors haven't got them out of the nl . But it is a bit of a priority as I am sick of the open door alarm lol Tomorrow's job is fitting the door ajar sensors to my car. I believe it only requires 1 wire to work = 1 wire from the dash to the sensor and the other wire off the sensor gets earthed in the door. For more info this page helped me: documents.php?d=73
