Okay, I have an 96' EF... now in the wiring diagram an EF's boot release switch is always hot (ie you can open the boot at any time). But, in my EF I can only open the boot when accessory is turned on and in the PDF manual I have the wiring is telling me its been wired like an EL.
Now, my question is... In a EL do you need to turn to accessory to open the boot from within? Or will it still open regardless. Or is my car just have EF wiring, but the manual is backwards? (EF EF Manual.PDF) Its just annoying how I can open the fuel door without keys, but not the boot. (like my BA) Suggestions anyone?

it times out. EA-D it's always on. EF-L it times out.
i used to hate it when people locked there keys in the boot when i worked for RACV on EF/L's and they were on gas. made it difficult. EA-D were easy

EF series 2 and onwards the boot release was disabled without the ignition on.
It was to give the car more 'security' Less chance to push a rod to the button to open the car. If you really want it, throw in a series 1 BEM.

As far as I can tell there is no 'time-out'... if the keys arnt in accessory or running, the boot release simply wont work.
Ive tried straight after shutting down engine, straight after lock and unlock... no difference? Anyone??

I believe ef2 there was no delay el on ward they gave a short delay, sort of a good idea, but not quite thought through enough in ef2.

If you're in a hurry - pull the CRT LP fuse, put it back in, press the boot release buttton.
