Hi fella's, i need help with a ef fairmont climate control.. It wont switch to heat, i crank the temperature up, and its stays cold..
The ambient is 11 degrees c, it turns the aircondition on when i press auto. I looked in the manual, it shows how to reset the climate control, done that, it comes up with the code E2, but it still plays up???? any ideas, what about reseting the cars computer???? if so how do i do that?? Thanks for you help??

Its either a blocked/jambed heater tap, blocked heater core or the blend door servo isnt operating. Conduct climate control reset and if E2 comes up its the blend door servo. The blend door servo controls the mixture of hot/cold air.

You will find the blend door servo on the top of the heaterbox. From memory you cannot get at it without removing the dash. Check on that. But first check the heater tap moves when heat is selected, if it does check that both heater water pipes are hot. If one is cold the heater core is blocked or the heater tap is not letting water through. Also if you have changed the coolant or done work that requires water to be removed from the system you might have an air lock. Turn on heater and let engine idle at about 2500 for 15 mins with the cap off the header tank.
But with the E2 error I think as said before you have a blend door problem. Good luck. I have to remove my dash to change my heater core. Fair size job all up.

You boys are 100% right, i rang peter warren ford, the service guy said the exact same thing, air blend motor.. And the dash has to come out for it.
Is it a bastard of a job??? I think its just been serviced ( i only got the car monday) as the coolant looks new, and the air filter is new. And im freezing my a*** off in the mornings.. should i fix it?? is it worth it?? What kinda mechanic skill do i need.... on the basic to expert level?? Ill try the blockage first, ill get a bottle of anti inhibitor too, see if that does anything.. Thanks boys!!

Ive heard that some mechanics with permission from customer cut a section out of the dash behind the glovebox to access the blend door servo. Its alot faster and cheaper for the customer, the glove box covers the cut away panel.

I think you might find the blend door motor is over too far for the glove box mod.

Interesting, I am sure you could access the motor then but I can't see how that is going to allow access to the front mounting screw on the motor - that one is hard enough with the dash out.. Do they remove the motor from its mounting bracket some how?

There are 4 screws holding the motor on to the bracket and if you can get in there with a phillips bit and a spanner you may be able to get it out, but i'm not sure if you can get the motor high enough to get it off the door pivot.. I have it all in front of me as I am waiting to put it all back after replacing the heater core.
Removal of the dash is not so hard if you plan it out and allow yourself plenty of time. If you rush it and you don't know what your doing things get broken. Reading the tech doco on adding climate control will help with what you need to do to get the dash out, then go from there. I push both seats back and lay them as flat a possible and remove the steering wheel, with care you can then disconnect the cables on the lhs and center of the dash and swing it over the steering column and lay it on the drivers seat which gives you plenty of room to work. Remember time is your enemy if you rush it you will forget something or break something.

How do you run this error code? Mines doing the exact same thing and its sooo cold..
I've ruled out heater tap so I'm guessing its one of the above things. Cheers, Nathan |

All i know it saves alot of time and money for the customer. |

If you go to tech docs and adding climate control you will see the blend door motor and how its mounted. From all the pics I have I cannot see how you will get to the blend door motor without removing the dash as it is somewhere behind the radio area.

The blend door motor is held in by screws or rivets depending on model. It's a bugger to get out even with the dash out I doubt it could be done with the dash in regardless of how much you cut.

Yep 4 screws to the bracket and 2 rivets to hold the bracket to the heater box.
