I 'sand' mine flat on top and lightly on the sides, gives a very nice even distribution of light.

Ok 2hrs later its done.
Two bits of advice: THe rubber vertical stands around the filter are very suspectible to breaking off so be very careful. 2) The LCD screen has to go in a certain way. I completed it once but found out it was upside down. I feel like Chunkz DOH! Anyway this is how it came oiut at midday.

ok now check the first two pics here:
http://fordmods.datamine.tk/gallery.asp?gallery=dials and sand your LED, you'll get rid of that 'hotspot' and have a very evenly lit display.

mmm chris
that sanding led trick works a charm. definitely directs the light better only drawback is it tends to make the light a lil more dull, but i guess we can live that that

Sand the top flat, and rough up the sides.
ch0c0, the difference you may be talking about is due to the fact that normally the LED's light output is focus in a narrow-ish beam of about 15°. After sanding flat, and sides, the same light output is now ~180° - same light more spread. If the now apparently dimmer light is a worry, reduce the resistor used a bit to run the LED harder. BTW: Two identical LEDs, the one on the left is sanded, both run @ 10mA.

Yeah I sanded the top down a little but was worried I might break it so I oinly gave it avery light sanding. I can live with the hotspot for now.

you can go a long way down, the LED 'chip' is only about a 1/4 the way in.

It may well have been asked before, but what is the difference from making the LED's up (LED+resist+holder) and the Narva ones (complete units).
Which is better and why? |

narva ones are complete, ready to use (if you like DIM). I changed the resistors in mine to a lower value to brighten them up. It's an easy desolder the old, solder in the new job.
Don't think I've got any pics of that process, but it's piss easy.
