Try buying different types of blue material, even cellophane, just to see what it looks like. Vary the layers of filter too to see how the light diffuses through it.

I had a bit of a play with some plastics last night

What I did was get a thin layer of transclucent blue plastic and stick a peice of white adhesive label on the back to act as a diffuser/reflector for the light.

What I found (using the EL clock) was regardless of what colour the plastic was, the orangey tinge of the globe still made the screen light up orange even when trying to difuse the light through a blue plastic filter with roughly the same transparency as the original filter.


My idea was to stick white paper on the back of the blue plastic filter to act as a reflector from the front so daylight wont pass completely through the screen without reflecting off the white layer (therefore making the screen backlit white and blue in daylight) and also the white layer is for magnifying the light and make it brighter at night. i.e. white light would make the screen look more blue than green (blue+orange = green)

I need to get my hands on one of those blue filter caps for the globe to take some of the orange tinge off the light

Hang on, you have an orange globe plugged in? That's not what I've seen in a CC unit I pulled apart. It had a standard uncolored globe in it.
You need to replace the globe you've got with a normal white / transparent globe otherwise yes, you'll never get the blue screen you're trying to create.
I thought that all CC and trip comp units had just a standard uncolored globe in them. Anyone else have these in their CC and TC units?

does anyone know if there is a way to make a filter like the standard ford orange one in blue? as it would make life alot easier

photographic shops would sell quality filter material in various colours.

And the globe itself isnt amber, it just lets out a yellowy/orange tinged light.. not a clear whitish kind of light. The globe is a clear globe. IF you buy your dash globes from ford (expensive), they all come with a blue rubber "condom" that sits over the globe to filter off some of that yellowy/orange colour and make them a whiter light.

best way i have found is leave the orange plate in there and cut one peice of red or what ever color printer paper and place it over the top the plate protects the paper from burning from the 2 watt globes

I actually used a piece of bread bag that was blue

Blue paper and a blue coned LED will work.. You can not see them very well during the day however.
