EF/EL is the same - blue:vertical, violet:horizontal. Along with a red wire from each motor pair.
I did notice EB-D also has a black earth wire from each motor pair back to the switch - you'll want to disconnect this all, as EF/EL doesn't have this, the earth is through the switch wiring.
All in all it will probably be a trial and error as you've said, along with a few multimeter tests.
