Hi Guys,
Wanting to know the pinouts for the rear wiper button as found on EF / EL station wagons. *looks at snap0964*  Does it use a negative trigger to activate the wiper / rear sprayer ? Have looked through a bit of the EF / EL workshop manual, but cannot find - goo chance I missed a schematic or something  Any help appreciated. Thanks, Steve |

Looking at the wiring plug from behind where the wires go in and the release tab is on the top in the centre.
Pin 1 will be top left, and Pin 5 will be directly underneath. Pin 1 Brown - Park Lights Pin 2 Blue Red - Illumination Pwr Pin 3 Green - Wiper On - 12v+ Pin 4 Black - Earth Pin 5 Green - Washer - 12v+ - Momentary For the rear washer, it directly activates the washer, and sends a signal the Rear Wiper ECU, which then activates the wiper. Thanks BenJ - so it's not a negative trigger when the button is depressed / activated.

I'd prefer using a factory switch and the only one I can think of using is the rear wiper switch - I guess I could just ground pin 5 and I'd be right  Unless there are other factory switches that I am forgetting Thanks, Steve |

When you select the switch to turn on the rear wipers, all it does is allow the positive line and the earth line to bridge, and therefore complete the circuit.
Used in conjunction with a relay, you can make it do what ever you want it to. BenJ

Yeah didn't really want to use a relay for the sake of more wiring etc - but will probably do that in the end

The switch won't be rated for any real current use anyway, so you would need to use a relay just to ensure the switch didn't melt.

I figured as much - the intended application is only low current though, so it would be fine.

I suppose you could use a column shift auto Economy switch (the caption could be a pisstake for boost). Those switches are pretty much the same as the power antenna switch - caption is different of course, pinouts rearranged different on the back.
You could use the foglight caption in the cluster to come on for high boost. You'll then need the bezel (fairmont wagon/GLI column shift), or make it (I made mine). The plug won't be present in the wiring harness, so you'll need to wire it all up (not hard). I think the switch will look okay in the middle - I don't think it's angle should look too far out of place.

You've hit the nail on the head Ray - I did actually think about the 'ECONOMY' switch that they used in the XH utes...but finding one in cappucino
Another reason I thought of just going with the wiper button is because it doesn't require an angled face for it to blend in with the bezel etc. I already have the 3-hole bezel from Fairmont wagon (might have to spray cappucino!). Yeah, I forgot the EL's will have the buttons in the much loved Cappa colour.

You could use an aerial button too.
I need the pinouts for an aerial switch? I want to wire it to cut the aerial signal to the BEM when off, and let the signal though when on. I have a Pioneer headunit, and they aren't wired with proper aerial control. |
