I have got a mate who has an EF Fairmont. The front passenger door handle cannot be screwed onto the door properly (at the front of the handle) as the thread fitting inside the door spins when attempting to tighten the screw. Is it possible to remove this thread fitting inside the door with a plastic one or a similar thread?

Sounds like the door Nut Rivet M6 (available from Ford for $2.53 each) - Part Number V820134S has loosened up.Putting these in my doors at the moment as Im adding fairmont trims. He will have to try and loosen the ftrim and from behind the trim try and grab the edges of the rivet with a pair of multigrips or similar and hold the rivert while you undo the screw. If the screw is already out you could try to either tighten the rivet so its snug agian or drill it out being careful to not make the hole for the rivet any bigger than it is.If you go to the power window conversion doco it will give you an idea how to refit or fix the rivet in the door.
