How hard is it to fit a EF Steering Column into a ED? I'm dieing to fit a ELGT steering wheel into my car lol. What wiring problems may i run into with the cruise control etc?

from what ive heard, you need to change steering rack and K frame to fit it, switch problems arnt so hard to sort out.

if i have do that then its not worth it! lol. Surley someone who has done the EF/EL dash conversion would be able to know!

Take your EL wheel to a machine shop and get them to alter the wheel to take the EB/D BOSS.
Only dramas you have then is the wiring for your cruise and horn and stuff!

Ok, I'm pretty sure the following is all you need to do.
Remove old EB steering column and engine bay shaft. Fit new EF shaft. Using a drill, open the holes in the floor up to the same size as the studs in the EF shaft base plate. (EB ones are screwed in, EF/EL are bolted in). You will then need to plug everything in. I'm very sure that all the plugs are the same between the types of columns, with the cruise one being the one I am not sure of. If need be just solder in the EF plug.

I think you will have dramas with the cruise buttons.
The EF/EL cruise is a completely different set up to the EA-ED one. The EF/EL buttons have some different functions to the EA-ED ones and are independent of the horn as well and I doubt that the resistances are the same. I am sure that a propellor head could work it out alright, but for simpletons like me..........................I think you might hit trouble just soldering in a different loom!

i have done the swap on my last ed not hard at all i also used the el cruse setup |

I am fitting an EF/EL rack, intermediate shaft and steering column to my EA, you need to make a small adjustment to the mounting holes on the EF rack to make it sit in the middle of the gap at the dash, you can use the ea-ed cruise control and ef/el buttons for the cruise but you will need to adjust the resistance on the buttons to function correctly.
The plugs are different also, if you use the EF/EL stalks you will need to redo the plugs to suit the ea-ed (this is what I have done). Jason

So if I have this correct, you are using a Power Steering Rack, Intermediate Shaft and Steering Column from and EF/EL. To use the EF/EL Cruise buttons you need to change the resistance for the control module to recognise them. And if I want (I presume you would have to) use the indicator/washer stalks you just need to rewire/cut and shut the plugs on the Steering Column to match the dash plugs. When you say you need to adjust the holes on the EF/EL rack, what part of the dash are you refering to? Where the column sits under the instrument panel or near the firewall. I might just do this as I am looking for a nice s/wheel but can't work out how to get around the cruise problem. Regards BenJ

NO, unless you get a custom intermediate shaft made.
the input shafts are different between EA-ED and EF-EL this is another of the things on my looong list of mods ill get around to one day.
