Welcome to Ford mods. Since the trip computer was probably retro-fitted I'm guessing the data line from the instrument cluster might have come loose. This Tech Doc should help you out... http://www.fordmods.com/documents.php?d=32

Have a good read through the link I posted before. Might be worth pulling the trip comp out and starting from scratch. I put a trip comp in my GLi following the tech doc and have had no problems with mine. It's basically 4 (I think) wires; data line from the cluster, power (I used the cig lighter power feed), illumination (from the cig lighter light) and (I think it was.. without going through the docs again) the light dimmer, I don't remember what I used there. You can use the plug that already goes into the back of the trip comp, just gotta add the wires in the right places.

All the info you need is in the link I posted earlier. Kinda ironic, I had to change a globe in mt cluster today and accidentally pulled out the data line when putting everything back, trip comp did exactly what yours is.

G'day guys... so I have bought myself the trip computer to go in the XR8
I have removed the dash and checked everything out, read and re-read the Tech Doc on which wires go where. My question is, how do you actually fit the wire into the plug? It looks as if its meant to have some kind of metal female connector that than goes inside the plug to connect with the pins. I have tried to find a connector small enough to solder/attach to the end of my wire but dont know what to get. |
