Anybody converted their standard ef single air bag system to the later model el twin air bag setup
I'm told that the wiring loom is the same and that i just have to unplug the resistor on the passenger side of the dash and plug that into the air bag. I have the twin air bag dash with airbags, but dont want to have to pull the ef dash only only to relise that im going to have to chase down an appropriate dash loom. Id rather gather all required parts and do it all in one hit. Any help is much appreciated

I know series two EF has the dual bag wiring, you might need to check if yours is Series one.
I think you may be able to see the plug from up under the dash with the glove box out.

Yeh I've done a couple of conversions.
as above and my other posts, Open the glovebox, and look for a spiral wrapped pipe on the left hand side, its usually pluged into the plastics and holds the resistor, with that, Its plug and play. Otherwise you'll need to run some speaker wire to the PAB from the AIRbag module above the steering wheel on the right against the firewall. Similar to above, cut the plug off, (has a resistor in it) join extension and plug in PAB.

yep i've done a few EF1 and EFII, like twason and krytox said pull out the glove box and on the left metal frame will be a plug, or look up and there will be some yellow insulated tubing. if its EF1 it will need the loom but make shore its from a EFII with cruise (if it's got cruise) cause EL ones are different.
check out this thread with my car and EF2XR6's car both with dual airbags interior-modifications-f14/your-car-s-interior-show-everybody-what-you-ve-done-t6418.html |

Just remember when you get the dash make sure you get the main support bar and the aircon piping from the back as both are differnt to allow for it.

thanks for the replies.
i pulled the glove box out but couldn't see the plug or a yellow tube. maybe it's there and i just dont know what im looking for. Does any one have a pic of the plug???? had a look at the module on the drivers side but couldn't see much with all of the other wiring in the way the car is a jun/95 build if that helps distinguish between series 1 or 2 once again cheers in advance

Ok it's most likely series 1 then, as it's surprisingly easy to spot, being birght yellow and all.
In otherwords it's an extra C*** of a job, between being a dash out job, personally I'd consider trying to get a complete s2 pab dash setup if possible as it may make things easier. just a thought.

You will need to retain your EF dash loom as the EL loom is different.

also i think 96 they bought out s2.
one way to check is s1 had an ashtray that covered the cigarete light, they elimanated this as they had a lot fail and changed the design, although, not fullproof as some were up gradaed, although i prefer the hidden lighter.

You don't need to change ANY looms for the PAB, Series 1/2 both have provision for PAB just in different connector positions. ie: cable run. (S2 have it where its required, S1 have it on the drivers side)
As for the Crash pad, utilize your existing dash loom.. a simple switch, the PAB plug on the Passenger side (if applicable) is actually on the Body loom, not the Dash loom.

The resistor and plug won't be too far from the airbag module - you'll most likely see it better once the dash is out. Good opportunity to recheck the pedalbox, or add the extra wiring for climate, and a high series BEM, etc.

I need to get onto doing this. I've got a PAB dash from an EL Ghia and the wiring loom. Putting it into my EF using a NF Series 1 dash wiring loom, so I'll have to add the extra wiring for the second air bag.
