Hello all.
I have an EF GLi and the damn thing is stuck on recirculation the whole time. I've had the control cluster out to see if it was a switch or wiring problem and I couldn't see one. Is this a common problem with the EFs? It's real annoying because the car always smells musty, fogs up real easy and in the winter I have to drive around with the air con compressor going together with the heater to stop the interior from fogging up. |

THe recycle air flap is down under/behind your glove box and hard to get to. Either you have a vaccum leak or it is stuck. If you feel so inclined to rip out your dash to try to get to it be prepared for a big job.

Well I havent heard of it being stuck on recirc before, but ive only just got my car back together from pulling out the box myself. Generally the flap drops down, and makes it get fresh air all the time so you may be in luck, as something might be jamming somewhere.

I have the same problem! Its stuck and I always get outside air in the car, even when the a/c or vents are closed. Then when the air is on, its fresh air.
How do I check if its a vacuum leak? And how do I check if the flap is stuck without pulling out the dash? Thanks

Stick your head under the dash and look behind the glovebox. You will see the air box that has a large felt covered door that swings to allow fresh air or recirc air. On the outside of the box (passenger side) there is a vacum servo and arm which swings the door. The point at which the arm connects to the shaft often breaks (mine is currently jammed in the recir position until I find the time to rip out the dash and attempt to fix). You cannot but the door and arm only. Ford will only supply the whole air box assembly and from memory it was about $180.

well mine had fresh air all the time, and the fan speed slows down a bit.
I found the problem, a broken link to move the door flap. the problem is, you have to rip the dash out to get to a $20 part!! and because i never use the fresh air option, i decided to put a self tapper in the flap to hold it on recirculate all the time. worked a charm, but one day i'll fix it.

The control system for Fresh/Recirc broke on my car a couple of years back : bad design apparently. Very common in E-series falcons.
When this happens, most A/C Shops will just use a screw to fasten the flap into the recirc mode so that A/C works well. cause its a bastard to replace. Needless to say I did mine without pulling the dash out and it was a fair old bit of work. NIgel |

HAHAHAH yes this has happened, which is what the windows are there for, cause i wind em down. or if i've got 4 people in the car, i'll let one rip and recirculate it!

dont leave your system on recirc.. your oxygen levels drop noticeably on long drives..
puts you to sleep ..... sleep puts you into a tree.... tree puts you into ground.... f**k yeah and if anyones air system wont change off demister it means that your vacuum line at the back of the engine (intake side) has fallen outta the T piece there.. just poke it back in and your away.

As an interesting point, i was stressing that my EF was doing the same thing not long after i bought it.
If you have it on AC Max mode, you can only re circulate your air, put it back on AC and it should be alright. |
