I know this may sound weird - I would like to know, how hard/easy would it be to fit a front benchseat from an EL wagon into a 1986 Toyota Hilux Ute? My dad's original bench seat in the Hilux has just about had it, so in order to make his driving more comfortable, can this conversion be done? Also, do you need anything re. roadworthy issues, safety POV, etc. any response to this idea would be much appreciated.

i will attempt this modification on my own, since no one can come with a response. If it works I will put up some information on how it went, maybe someone out there in our community has a similar problem.

if the dimentions will phisically fit and you can modify the brackets to suit i don't see why not! good luck, that'll give the hilux a dash of class!

I spoke to my dad about it and I may not have to fit the seat after all. My dad is looking at selling the Hilux and buying an XF ute. Also, my dad reckons the EL benchseat would be too big and not hold his stuff behind the current back seat - stuff like tarps, rope and papers.

By the way, would carpet from an EL wagon with a front benchseat line the floor of my dad's Hilux?

you'd need to get either an engineers certificate or a mod plate for it, simply cos although it meets the appropriate ADR's for that model, it doesnt use the original mounting holes/brackets

it can't be done - I spoke to someone from AllFord in Braeside yesterday. The Falcon front benchseat is too wide and won't fit the Hilux cabin, also, the el carpet won't fit the hilux floorpan, because of the shape of the trans tunnel and other issues. My advice, dad, sell the hilux and buy a Falcon ute!!
