Hey I have an EFII falcon olympic classic, and last weekend i did a dash cluster upgrade to a EL Fairmont cluster and i also put in a trip computer but i'm having a prblem with the cluster...
Everytime i turn on the ignition the odometer and trip meter reset to the last reading they had from the car they came out of.. does anyone have any suggestions as to whqat the problem is???? |

Yeah i plugged the wire into the data line pin but that shouldn't affect it should it?

thats normal for the odometre.
if you wanted the new cluster to have the readings that you previously had from old cluster,you would have to change the odometre microchip over,its a small thing (approx 1cm square on the back of the motherboard inside the cluster),and would be to easy to stuff it up if you did it yourself,better off running the new cluster as is,and keeping your old one,so if you go to sell your car,put old cluster back in and the odometer reading wont be as high!!!!

wrong wrong wrong (also illegal) The odometer will increment just fine with any cluster you install. This sounds like the EEPROM in the new cluster is f**k, as it's not saving the changes properly. You can get the EEPROMs swapped over (or do it yourself if you can solder SMD components), it's detailed in the documents section on this site. Also with a Fairmont cluster into a low series car, you need to add a diode to the cluster so the dash illumination works properly.

Thanx guys, i think the eprom's F***ED as well thats the only thing playing up which i think might be affecting the trip computer readings as well so i might change the eprom first and see what happens
