Parts are the easy bit. Physically bolting the dash etc in is the easy bit.
The hard part is making up wiring adaptor looms to interface the car with the EL dash parts. BenJ

yeh i was gonna run 351 or even 393 windsor but was thinking fuel injected... would this make it all to hard with redoing all the dash? but then again i supose they have the same cluster so its not really changing much wiring like you are.?

effalcongli - The firewall in the XH is identical to the XF. That said you would have the same problems as ashcook will, but it would be heaps easier because all the electronic stuff is half there. If would be more to do with the actual mounting of the dash.
Ashcook....It may be easiest to just put the EF xr8 motor in the car and associated electrics that way you won't have to manufacture all the looms. If in the end the dash from the ef doesn't fit you can always put a XH dash in. They are old fashioned but you can still add all the luxuries. Snap 0964 (a member on here) has managed to add climate control, woodgrain interior, ABS, cruise, etc etc to his XH without having the change the dash so it might pay to send him a pm as he has a wealth of knowledge.

Just search using my forum name - everything's been posted on here. Look in the X series tech doco's too.

That's the go!
Looks like your half way there...lol. Whats going to be your plan for the windscreen demisters? When I did mine I just cut the top off the demister duct and used clear pvc tubbing and ran that up to the windscreen. Using smaller tube to run across the windscreen through holes in the dash. My brother didn't even bother to do his. Just cut the top of the duct so it would fit behind the dash and left it like that. Good work . |

Your black xf trim will fit back on.
I had to cut some off the bottom to make it shallower (if you get what i mean). Here's a pic hopefully. yes different dash I know.

The window pillar can be covered by finding the window pillar plastic out
of your XR6 donor can't it? Hmmmph - I am trying to talk my friendly garage owners brother into buying my Futura or Fairmont dash and loom to put in his V8 box the same as yours. I think the interior side of things confuses him - but he's the best man at putting any V8 into anything. He currently runs a big block Ford in a Toyota landy for his 4WD things and was the first guy I met to rig up two handbrakes (lefty and righty)... In the 80's... But hell, getting him enthusiastic about changing the tired old interior is hard work! |

Try clicking on this and checking out page 6 (or thereabouts)... It is BENJ's classic thread.... He didn't put 9 inch speakers in the front doors like I did tho..! Slack - As there are no big rear speakers in your UTE, I suggest putting 6x9" speakers in front doors (relatively simple if you have a nibbler and some patience - and use the EF or EL door linings.)

Sounds like you're thinking along the same lines as
someone who knows what they like and has a fair idea of what they're doing. Good for you. Only thing --- If you make all your pictures about 6 or 700 wide it will stop all this need to scroll left and right to read the messages... Although, I am not sure how Internet Explorer handles displaying messages on this site - I use Firefox... And I have to scroll left and right to read the bloody messages. For instance, this line I am now typing on will not be visable to me until I scroll right. Where as this paragraph will be. mainly becuase I push carraige return (enter) after each line of typing...! Whatever, all good brother- I am going to put all my rantings and photos into one build thread one day so as to make sense of it all myself! Look forward to seeing your UTE speaker placement! |

MATE - I know how you feel entirely. Am working on a big old build thread for my car now... And boy, what a bloody mess!... PAINT would be great, in the meantime, maybe a personalised plate with "UGLY" on it would do?! |

Good setup I'd say... If those speakers are anything like the 6x9's I have in my boot you wouldn't need a SUB with them sitting right on ya a*** like that!!!
Man, I have really got this "stuffing about with cars" bug bad! Looks like a bit of effort put in there too... Any luck with the pillars being the same as the ones out the EF or EL donor? |

Good s**t man - That's real onto it. I'm going to make up something for the boot of my wagon one day once I've paid off a few things here and there and everywhere. Just going to use wood and coat it in paint I think!
A couple of drawers low down with a couple of spaces for buckets and containers to be put... And a big space for drop saws and the like.. Just like a ute hard top with a couple of rear seats and enough space for a 15" LCD DVD screen. |

i know this sounds dumb, but i havent the slightest clue.. the area behind the seats where that carpet covered box thingo is, does that do anything? or just hide the space? and could i chuck in a sub or two straight into that box???
