As far as I know, they do fit, but the window shape is completely different.
So there will be lots more fabricating needed!

IIRC you'll need an EL ECU to run the Dash itself, as well as climate or trip computer as there is a Data Line there.

Im not sure exactly what required the ECU. If you have a 5.8 go for it - you may even be able to use an EB/D Dash if you get into troubles.

Why didn't ford just put the EL dash in it from the start?

Hi

There will be several problems you will need to solve to get this to work.

Firstly, the instrument cluster needs a data line from the ECU. This data line feeds the tacho, temp, etc signals to the cluster and then on to the trip computer. The ECU sources these signals from the engine, which in your case might prove difficult without the correct sensors. The Oil Pressure sensor is specific to the EF/EL and you would have to find out if the V8 Windsor sensor will fit the Cleveland block.

In addition, all the EF/EL dash components will need to be connected up, but as it is a ute, you won't need the boot release, or even the fuel flap release buttons. The remote door lock switch is not needed, but you will have to make up a loom for the heater to function etc.

Good Luck

BenJ

Have a look through my thread in the Garage, as I have put an EL interior into my pre smartlock EB.

You may get some ideas from that.

Parts are the easy bit. Physically bolting the dash etc in is the easy bit.

The hard part is making up wiring adaptor looms to interface the car with the EL dash parts.

yeh i was gonna run 351 or even 393 windsor but was thinking fuel injected... would this make it all to hard with redoing all the dash? but then again i supose they have the same cluster so its not really changing much wiring like you are.?

effalcongli - The firewall in the XH is identical to the XF. That said you would have the same problems as ashcook will, but it would be heaps easier because all the electronic stuff is half there. If would be more to do with the actual mounting of the dash.

Ashcook....It may be easiest to just put the EF xr8 motor in the car and associated electrics that way you won't have to manufacture all the looms. If in the end the dash from the ef doesn't fit you can always put a XH dash in. They are old fashioned but you can still add all the luxuries. Snap 0964 (a member on here) has managed to add climate control, woodgrain interior, ABS, cruise, etc etc to his XH without having the change the dash so it might pay to send him a pm as he has a wealth of knowledge.

Just search using my forum name - everything's been posted on here. Look in the X series tech doco's too.

That's the go!
Looks like your half way there...lol.
Whats going to be your plan for the windscreen demisters?
When I did mine I just cut the top off the demister duct and used clear pvc tubbing and ran that up to the windscreen. Using smaller tube to run across the windscreen through holes in the dash.
My brother didn't even bother to do his. Just cut the top of the duct so it would fit behind the dash and left it like that.
Good work .

Your black xf trim will fit back on.
I had to cut some off the bottom to make it shallower (if you get what i mean).
Here's a pic hopefully.

The window pillar can be covered by finding the window pillar plastic out
of your XR6 donor can't it?

Hmmmph - I am trying to talk my friendly garage owners brother into
buying my Futura or Fairmont dash and loom to put in his V8 box the
same as yours.

I think the interior side of things confuses him - but he's the best man at
putting any V8 into anything. He currently runs a big block Ford in a Toyota
landy for his 4WD things and was the first guy I met to rig up two
handbrakes (lefty and righty)... In the 80's...

But hell, getting him enthusiastic about changing the tired old interior
is hard work!
