Would it be possible to take apart an EL cluster and an EF cluster and change over the black parts onto the gray of the EL cluster inc. white needles and s**t?

Yes it is a straight swap. I take it you must have a logical reason for doing it ?

Yeah it's a no brainer - but what I'm saying is it's easier to use the std EF templates from http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=67 rather than strip an EF cluster.

Okay - now I'm hearin' ya
I'm assuming your current cluster is EF low series.
1. Dial faces are a direct swap.
2. Oil press/Volts needles need to be recoloured white - you know how to do that due to previous advice to others.
3. Use the Fairmont matt black front fascia (with the extra "windows" for oil press & volts)
4. That's about it - use a kitchen fork with masking tape underneath the forks to pry your needles off.
As said previously - may be easier to print the EF dial faces from the doco rather than strip your EF cluster.

You might even want to keep your orange needles from the EL cluster, using the EF Faces ?!?!?!?!?!

The reason why I am saying this is the orange needles actually suit the EF Faces better than the white ones !

I know it sounds strange, but give it a go before recolouring the needles...

The only reason why people prefer the white needles is because of the Illumination problems you have when using Orange Needles with LEDs coloured Blue or Green... (Red/White/Yellow LEDs work very well with Orange Needles).....

Anyways, just a thought ?!?!?!

If you don't want your orange needles I would take them off your hands for a reasonable price?

I've tested blue LED's in an EL Fairmont cluster - the grey dial faces and orange needles looked pretty awful, seemed to have a dark spot or two on the dials. White LED's were a huge improvement. As for an EF with orange needles, you can only try them - but what Matti (Xyphoid) has written seems to be consistent with what I've found.

I recently stuffed a EF Fairmont dash into my EL.
Works first time no dramas except for ODO readings.
That will be fixed soon. The new dash had the correct ODO minus exactly 200,000 KMS hahaha.

I didnt think it would work at first but after the car running for 10 seconds the cluster came to life. Its possable the ECU detected a diffrent Serial No.
