Hey, Just a quicky.
How do I get the driver door trim off in a Fairmont ? I can do all the other doors however I cannot for the life of me figure out how to detach the locking bar from the mechanism. (The bar that moves the little knob up and down) The workshop manuals say to push it rearwards to detach but it is only made of a kind of plastic which doesnt have very much give. Tried for half an hour tonight and thought I must be doing something wrong, dont want to snap it. Whats the trick?? |

did you pull the 'lock snipper' (the knob) off?
paper towel + pliers + pull vertically up. then the door trim should be easy (unless I've completely misunderstood you)

The knob is plastic on a threaded rod...
Pulling upwards to remove = threaded. |

pulling up is how they come off, u just gotta pull it real hard, its hard to do it without marking the plastic, use a rag or cloth or paper towel like the last person said it helps, it wont thread it.

no, it is a threaded rod, but there's a "clip" holding the knob on the end. Even my Gregory's recommended what I said above.

hmm fair enough.
I saw the clip and thought thats what i had to get off. I have a tendency to thread things when I get ahold of them, either crossthreading or overtightening, heh Thanks for your help |

Make sure the bottom is clean and dry and you can pull up using your fingers and a bit of force.
If you still cant get it then use Pliers and a cloth or papertowl but be carefull it is still possible to scrach it through the towel or cloth...
