Hi,

I replaced my broken chrome button 3 yrs ago and now that one has broken. A new leather knob with chrome button costs $455.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a chrome button from? I am prepared to fit it and take it to a leather shop to have it recovered, but would rather not pay the $455 for a new one.

Thanks

Buy a chrome one from Ford?

Ebay often have them as well.

I've been told by my local Ford dealer that the chrome buttons are not available as a spare part and the shifter knob with a chrome button is no longer available. I have tried umpteen wreckers here in Adelaide without success, hence my request.

Don't know if it is only a problem with the chrome ones or not. It is a very badly designed plastic moulded button with an off-centre shaft to activate a lever to push down the metal rod to disengage the shift lock mechanism (take a breath now!). Not much sticks to this plastic, so glueing the broken one is a bit of a hit/miss affair. Seems to be a common problem. Pity it wasn't cast out of metal.

The problem is only with the chrome plated button shifters - i have had one break on me, n replaced it of course, i also have a grey vynal one here with chrome button that i forget where i got from.. could use that if it breaks again for temp.

Its common problem which is a shame - and yes you are right its not a servicable item - you can only replace the whole assy through ford
you can swap the buttons by unstitching the leather and on the front of the shifter is a small cover -pop that out and you will be able to undo the phillips head that holds it in. I did this when mine broke as the non leather chrome t bars are cheaper and then go my leather restitched

My chrome button snapped, I just re-attached it to the leather knob using superglue.

Has worked a treat ever since. Well, six months and going strong anyway!
