I am wanting to update my EL Ghia's interior to that of the EL GT with the black around dash fascia and transmission surround.

To do this I will either need to buy the gear from Ford (expensive I am thinking) or do some painting and swapping over of buttons on the Climate Control from EL to EF to get black ones...... Sad that the EF controller does not work in the EL! I think I will just paint up and use an EF trip computer.

Anywho, anyone know the actual colour of the fascia etc in the GT (is it just black, or some sort of charcoal colour??

You will/may need a VIN number to get some ELGT parts. I know some you can get no question but others require a VIN. It would be far cheaper anyway just to paint.

haha, jeez a vin number required to buy parts.
Anyway, you could always just change the fascia panel off the climate control unit over save repainting the buttons on.

I was thinking of just swapping the buttons themselves from an EF unit into the EL module........

Still need to know the colour tho if anyone can help?

Funny you mention this...

I have just converted my NL to the GT Style Dash surround..

First of all i bought a brand new EL GT steering wheel.

I then purchased new climate control with black buttons, trip computer etc

Then started painting

Here is the first attempt of dash surround + Climate Control.. ( i have s obtained another Dash surround and repainted it and the finish is much better finish than the one in the picture. It now looks like it came from the factory this way.

Make sure you clean the parts before painting and take your time, light coats and let it dry before applying next coat.

I used the VHT Vinyl Spray-Jet Black..

Will take a picture of fitted to car so you see what the end result is.

Another good Mod is to get your Centre console lid retrimmed..

I had mine done in Grey Velour with a white Stitch.

yeah, that is exactly what I am talking about....... I've bought one of the AUIII Fairmont Ghia (anniversary models got them standard) Momo's. They have less wood grain and more leather, but will still look a lot more schmick than the standard item.

Did you buy the CC module in black, or just with black buttons and then paint the rest of the front of it? (Same with the trip computer).

What did you use to clean the plastic parts before painting?? did you use it between coats as well?? I think the finish in the pic looks ok, but in your opinion what was it that worked better on the second attempt??

Are you using the original NL buttons for central locking and fuel flap etc?? or is it worth sourcing black EF ones??

Would be great to see some pics of it installed in the car too.....

Thanks mate.

I have used all EF Buttons and painted surrounds swapped them into my CC Module + Trip Computer.

I used some grease remove for cleaning the parts. It worked better with very light coats.. and let them dry in the sun for a day.. so it bakes..

I found the first attempt the surround was very shiney as i put to many coats of paint.. The new surround i have painted does not look like it has been painted... and matches the Climate control, trip computer

Here some pictures of the car with the old surround... Will post pictures when i have fitted the new surround...

I was pretty positive that the climate control module from an ef would work in an el......infact I am pretty sure I have seen it done!

YOu may have seen it working in an EL but the two units are wired diffrently inside..

Apparently it will not be able to control the air director properly...

So it may look like it working but probably not as efficient as if you have the correct one for your particular model

Here are some better pictures of my dash... Turned the flash off so you get better view of dash..

Yeah didnt bother doing the vent..

Probably more effort than it is worth. As would be hard to replicate the dot on which is on the little slider piece of the vent...

Im pretty sure the EL GT had this part grey also.. Not sure why they wouldnt have them black also.
