Ok, with the help of OZBMX (cheers Joel) ive got myself a EL dual airbag dash skin and airbag. Im looking at starting to change it all over soon but Ive been doing a bit of observation and I have some questions.

I only have the dual air bag dash skin (top half) not the light gret bottom half. How does the airbag mount to the dash? I see 3 M6 holes in the air bag itself but i cant see what it bolts onto.

I can see a huge black bar up inside the dash where the PAB should go. Does this come out or does the PAB go around it?

Ive read that the air vent piping is different to single airbag dashes. Anyone Confirm?

I understand the whole bolting my existing bottom peice to the new skin and the dash removal procedure.

Any other hints or tips would be appreciated. Looking at maybe getting a tech doco together for the PAB conversion.

Cheers,
Woody.

IIRC the black bar doesn't come out.
Yes the Airpipe is different, It travels around the PAB.

EF2 has the PAB wiring already with a blanking resistor.

EL, I think, has the resistor near the airbag ecu.

So you'll have to route twisted pair over to the passenger side.

It would be easier to acquire a complete dash from another car.

PAB wiring in El is on the left hand side inside where the glovebox is so wiring it up is no hassle. how different is the air vent piping??

Ahh great so same with EF2, EF1 didn't have this option.

Plumbing is quite different, its molded about 10-15cm more towards the windscreen.

Nothing a bit of ingenuity wouldn't fix.

sweet! Im sure i can whack something up.

Now to figure out how the airbag attaches to the dash itself and im in business. Ive got a feeling from looking it bolts the the lower half of the dash but i could be way wrong. anyone who has the PAB from factory can you take a pic of under your glove box??

I've fitted a PAB to a non PAB dash, the PAB dash I got for nothing - only thing it was Fubar.
As Andrew said the duct piece that goes around the back of it has a recess - you can hit a std one with a hot air gun and remold it to suit.
The PAB sits on a metal tray which has a metal plate which attaches to the metal crashtube - this only goes as far as the centre air vents in the PAB dashes - I cut my tube and welded the tray to it.
The EL's have a sticker in the fusebox ID'ing PAB or non PAB dashes.

The two strips in this picture are there to cover the identations from where the dash spear used to be - obviously a PAB dash doesn't have them.
Also the glovebox lid has the badge on the top left - the factory lids have a flat, but you can glue the badge.

ok so i guess im missing some nessacary bits then. I got the PAB glovebox skin too. Can this metal plate be made or is it less hassles to get one froma wreckers?

The dash i got was really sunburnt and had started to turn white. A good cope of days were needed to get the moisture back into it. Looks tops now.
