I looked into this a bit the other day and i'm not sure, they seem different and the swap doesn't seem easy to me, but it's all new stuff to me.
I was looking into it because EL seats place me too high, even after modding the seat base, i'm tall though.

There are a number of threads re this.
It is not possible to do a rail swap. You need to either, cut, shut and weld the legs on the EF/EL seats, or transfer the floor section from an EF/EL to the EA-ED. BenJ

You will find that the EL seat mounts are different in two ways - the first is the rear inner mount which is taller than the EA-ED. This means you would need to remove the post from that location in the EA-ED seats. But then you will find that the outer front mount is closer to the sill than EA-ED seats.
I just went through all this trying to put EL seats in my ED. Here's my solution to the problem: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... &start=120 Cheers RD

Yes, i thought you were going that way. I wonder if your way is simpler. Maybe just cut the inner-rear foot off the EB seats and weld on a straight mount? I don't know.

On my '98 EL the front outer seat mount is spaced wider than EA-ED. It is about 2" closer to the door. I have no idea if all EF/EL's are like that but thats what my one had which is the reason why I took the whole tunnel and seat mounts out of the EL for my ED.
I am sure there are others who have "downgraded" seats to fit into an EL, maybe some of them could give you some pointers...

It's easy to assume things are the same. I can't figure why ford changed the seat supports, it just doesn't seem worth it, but i guess there is a reason? Ford seem to make a number of unecessary changes here and there, i have wondered if it is just to stifle the aftermarket and secondhand sector.
