Hi I have installed a fairmont sports cluster in my EL and the warning light for the thermo fan came on. So I checked under the bonnet and it has stopped working. Is this a common problem? Could I have broken something when I openend up the dash? Is the wiring different so now a cable is connected to something else? I am pretty sure it's not a fuse.
Thanks Josh |

Which light?
Im sure you'll find this is the Coolant level light. Red square with a fan in it, and its flashing? If you installed a fairmont cluster in a GLi you'll either need to add the Coolant float, or Simply remove the globe. Actually, come to think of it. I think all EL's have a Low level float. Does your car have any wires going to the overflow bottle on the drivers side? If not, theres your problem (remove the globe) Also did you follow the tech documents? http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=14 You'll also have to add a resistor for a Fairmont cluster to illuminate.

My thermo fans aren't working now, since I put in the dash. What would cause that? maybe they haven't been working for a while. But the picture with the fan keeps flashing now?

There is no light for Thermo Fans.
Turn your Air Conditioning on High to test the thermo fan operation. The Flashing Light is the Low Coolant Level warning. Look at your old cluster where the jewel that is falshing on your new cluster, if there is no globe and just a paper dust sticker where the globe should be, then you'll have to remove the globe on your NEW unit. OR Go the long way and add this 'new' feature that you currently did not have. Will require wiring and additional engine bay parts.

Thanks Krytox, I thought that the fans ran all the time.
How come they don't? In the old days the fan was on the motor and would run all the time. I suppose it would use more power that way. I will take out the light like you suggested. But I will wait till I get some blue led's. Cheers Josh. |

The EL Gli's dont have the coolant sensor, so thats maybe why the light is on, EL futura and on had the sensor

So same as EF GLi's.
Perhaps I assumed because 90% of EL's i see at the wreckers are Futura's. not AS many EL GLi's around.

not sure about the EF's, but you will be able to tell looking at your coolant reservoir, it will have 2 wires coming out the right hand side of it and thats the sensor
