Hey guys, just wondering, would a EF/L trip computer fit in my ED? Obviously, size is different, but could the insides be changed so as to give me the overspeed function and different warning chimes.

not sure. The EF/EL cluser has a line from the cluster called the DOL. That provides all the information to the trip computer. SO if the ED had this then yes the guts of the EF/EL one would work in the ED.

Ill have a look at the doco on the ED one.

You cant. The EA-ED have several wires used to operate the trip computer and the EF/EL has only one.

You can get those after market speed alarms and they should be easy enough to hook up if thats what you want.

You could put a EA-ED trip computer in and mod the Speed Alarm to fit in the triangle hole next to it. But no one else has done that.

NO.

Data lines are from different places. (ECU => ED) (Cluster => EF)

ALSO

the Buzzer is built into the Cluster on EF models. So even if you did somehow manage to get it to work you would have no buzzer.

BUT!!

It can be done if you:

-fitted a XH ECU, as your ED has a EF Engine with log manifold
-retro fitted a EF cluster
Then fitting the Trip comp would be as per EF bar the dash mods which you know about

Or you could take the ED out the driveway and replace it with a EF. I know of a EF that needs a balencer fitted. Ill sell it to you for 3k :)

Yeah, I love my ED! Drives great, and with all of the mods I've done, have it just the way I like it (and should be)

Plus, its probably the most reliable car I've owned. Just change oils, filter and plugs and drive.

Just lucky, probably built on a Wednesday, about mid morning!
