my drivers side window in the ef has been making noise for ages, a few weeks ago i took the trim off to have a look and the metal armoured cable that pulls the window up and down was all frayed and bits of the metal wire were dragging along the window, making noise. it looked like to much of a hard job to fix.
just then i went to put my window up and heard a big noise (which was the cable snapping) i tried to grab the window but it pulled it's self down to quick, and now its stuck at the bottom. any one know how much this could cost to fix? the motor sounds like it could be on its way out aswell. what kinds of places would fix this? auto sparky's? normal mechanics? sigh more money ive gotta spend, going in for a new power steering pump on friday $370, hope this wont cost me to much. i also bet my window is scratched to s**t now. sorry about the novel haha, replys please cheers

I just replaced my Front left window Reg, the exact same thing happend to me, you can by a new window reg from a spare parts joint or go to a wreaker & pull one out of another car, the window regs are suited to each door so you will need the front right/drivers side, the cables cannot be replaced. I payed $45 for a second hand reg, for a new one you will be looking at $110+, it is easy to fit the new window reg, just make sure you have nuts & bolts to hold the new reg in as the factory reg is rivetted to the door.

The job can be done in under 15mins, A mechanic or panel beater can do it, pitty you dont live local to me as I would charge you $50 for labour not $200.

Tools required, 10mm socket & ratchet, drill, Philips head screw driver , Hammer & punch plus 2 bolts & nuts to fit the new reg (10mm nuts & 10mm bolts).
Ok take the door trim off Remove door handle Remove the clear plastic that covers the door Lift window up, undo the bolts at the bottom of the window, then pull the window out of the door, drill the rivets out, hammer out the rivet shells, undo the remaining bolts, push the plastic clip that looks like a + as this holds the wiring connection, disconnect the old reg wiring, pull the old reg out, fit the new reg into position, bolt it up & fit the new bolts where the rivets where, put the window back in, fit the nuts removed from the window, connect the power to the new reg, push the plastic clip back into the door, test the window, once working fit the clear plastic & the door trim back on. Job finished.

I dont think you can replace only the cable you will have to replace the whole regulator. Try this link its in the Tech Documents Located Top Right Side. It will basically be the same thing i reckon when changing your electric regulator. Start reading from "Removing the manual Window Winders" i think it will be the same removing the electric regs.
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/Power-Wi ... n-d21.html Hope this helps.

You guys are fast if you can do it in 15mins. The rivets are a absolute c_nt to get out. It took me more than 15 mins to get each rivet off. If it has already been replaced before its a relativley easy job. But if you arnt competent i wouldnt do it. Wreckers always try to jam the right front up you as its the most common to go and high in demand. Id expect $70-100 a fair price for a good second hand one and another $100 labour for a shop to do it. Fraud were $250 for the motor last time i checked and another $300 to put it in. Hope you window isnt scratched.

Nah, the rivets were pretty easy. i made up my on way to take it out. yeah as you said you have to be competent to do it, also be good with tools etc...Main thing is patience. Hope you can do it on your own. Will save you heaps.
