Hey guys,

Well its happened again, one of my electric windows has decided to call it quits. Basically I was driving home, put the window down, and when I went to put it back up it made a big CLUNK sound inside the door and its stopped halfway. The button still is fine and moved it gradually for a bit, so I'm sure its something to do with the window function itself.

I opened it up when I got home and a long wire hangs out. I'm guessing this needs to be threaded back in the fix it, but I can't get it back in. Here's a pic:

Image
By the way I haven't left the wire hanging out thats just for the point of the pic so you know what I'm talking about.

I've got the window up and held by a wedge for now and I'm going to take it to my mechanic on Monday, but if anyone knows anything I can try for now please let me know!

Thanks in advance for any help!

One of the plastic lugs that the cable sits in would have snapped. You will need a new power window reg and motor. You will have to drill out the rivets to get the assembly out too.

It's a lot easier than it sounds, you drill out the 3 pop rivets, undo all the 10mm bolts from the window and out it all comes. There is a guide in the tech section on here. Hardest part is drilling out the rivets. New power window assembly costs about $110.

If you did want to fix it yourself - you can fit the cable assy's from a manual winder. Provided the drum assy is okay, you probably won't need another motor.

yeah it is an easy job. I've done it many times both in EAs and EL's

Before you drill the rivets out...undo the bolts that hold the window to the window regulator. You can do that by either having the window fully down, or up...not in between cause you can't get to the bolts.

Once you undid it, just drill the pop rivets out and the whole unit assembly should fall down...maneuver it out of the door and replace with a new regulator. You can use nuts and bolts to hold the new unit in...that way if something goes wrong you can just undo the later on, rather then drilling rivets out.

If you need a hand just PM me...

phong =P~

I'm not too good with mechanics to be honest, I'd probably stuff it up.

But if anyone think they can fix it easily and wants some cash for their troubles, just let me know, otherwise I'm off to the mechanic on Monday!

Cheers,
Lukey.

How do you think most of the people on here learn how to do these sorts of things ? Just have a go at doing it yourself, the money you save from labour will be a fair bit, I would offer to help but I think you're a wanker.

As I said there is a tech document on here that explains it all in detail, people don't take there time out to do these things for nothing. It's to help people like yourself. By all means though pay a mechanic to do it. Honestly why even be on a forum like this if you are not even willing to have a try yourself.

Because when you work two jobs and also a fulltime uni student you don't always have the time to do everything yourself, unless of corse you wanna come do 3 assignments for me thats fine :D

I do do a lot of stuff myself when I have the time and also have contributed technical documents myself before - so think before you post thanks.

I must disagree with it being easy. Its easy as far as what is involved in removing it, but them three rivets need a lot of drilling before they let go and a high degree of precision is required unless you dont mind mark on the door. It took me about an hour per door all up.

ouch, you need better drill bits then.

I've removed so many its not funny, 3mm drill bit, then a larger one to remove the rivet head. max 5 mins a door.

Easier when you hit the rivet pin out first.

or even cut the rivet off.

1 hour per door you'd want to pick a sunny day!
