Hey guys, the driver's electric window in my el xr6 has a bit of trouble winding up. It always seems to be worse just after i wash it. Yesterday it got jammed half way about 2 hours after i washed it, and i tried to pull it up but it woudn't come up. My mate showed me how to do it properly, to pull the window towards the back of the car and as soon as he did it, it went up straight away. He told me it was a common problem with all windows in the e-series, and that the mechanism comes loose so tries to wind the window up on a bit of an angle. He also told me there is no way to fix it other than to replace the whole mechanism. Is this true, and if not how can i fix it? I told him it seemed to get worse after i wash my car and he said it is just a coincidence, but i think it has a little more to do with the electirc windows than anything.

yeah ya mates right my EF XR6 does the same thing and unfortunently not much can be done and will get worse after ahwile.....it was a common fault with the E-series falcons but hey....all you can really have is 2 options.....replace the motor/mechanism setup or lubricate the runners every sorta month or so with this silicone type stuff from ford whoever sells it i cant remeber the name of it....sadly the window mechanisms arent cheap....thats why i was trying to find out if the AU/BA/BF ones were easily swapped into an E-series for but didnt really get very far with that...

Thanks mate. I might ring up ford and see if they can tell me if the AU/BA/BF egulators are interchangable with the E-series ones. Will let you know how i go and what they would recommend

The problem is the plastic runner wears out and allows the window to tilt. Replacing the winder mechanism is the only real fix.
Regular spraying of the bailey channel with silicone spray will help, as this will stop the glass dragging as it goes up. I use CRC 808 Silicone Spray, I apply it to my channels 2-3 times a year. You should be able to find it in most auto parts stores

Ford recommend a lubricant made by Bridgestone called LY - 70. For some reason they never approved the use of silicone based sprays for the bailey channels.
LY - 70 is actually quite thick, like honey, and it looks like it would never work in a 100years! BUT, just a few drops on the rubbers, work the windows up n down a few times and they fly!! I think its expensive tho. Thats why I use silicone on mine LOL

its dangerous stuff too. it comes in a tin like a (paint tin) with flammable stickers on it and rubber gloves inside. the stuff itself is in a little plastic squeeze bottle. you dont need much for it to be effective.
i can get it for about $38 if anyone is interested.

When I got my Fairlane 5yrs ago the passenger side window went down but not up (don't know how the yard got the RWC) but anyway I just poped off the door trim, re-adjusted the window channel (a 10mm bolt in an elongated hole) and squirted a bit of silicon down the channels and it's still going up and down no probs.
