Hey guys im thinking of buying the typhoon engine & 6 speed auto from Darren at FTG

Just want to know if there are some intelligent guys out there that could help me with the wiring side of things if i wanted to get everything working?

for example:
- Steering Wheel Air Bag - ABS System - Boot Release - Fuel Door Release - Climate Control - Power Windows - Power Mirrors - Speedo/Tacho - Fuel/Temp/Volt Guages

Im guessing some of those should be the same or similar but some im not sure about

The looms/ECU come with the engine which is great
If i knew how to test them and know what wire does what and what signal it sends blah blah blah then it would be easier :D ... but i have no clue

I would be looking at using an FPV cluster, BF radio/climate control screen & buttons and probably BA/BF Elec Window Buttons

so is there someone out there that can help me when and if i come across these problems?

Can you buy wiring diagrams for EF/EL and BA/BF???

As in colour coded and saying what each wire does?

Hey mate,
Gregories manuals give a pretty good idea on wiring colours etc. Its helped me heaps of times. But I havent seen a gregories manual for a ba/bf yet.

does the 6spd auto physically fit into the EF....ive heard that they wont fit into earlier 4spd BAs so it may be the same story with the EF

yeah but did ford make the tunnel larger knowing that they were looking at the ZF auto and needed the size?

i spose there is only 3 ways to find out:
1. talk to an engineer at ford
2. get a BA and an EF and physically measure
3. try and fit one in

i would bet that it proly fits in an ef... but yeah

Don't know about bell housing but the 6 speeds use a newer type a*** and this takes up less room. Thought they were physically a bit smaller than 4 speed auto.

Why not just ask FTG.

Grumbles

gregory's wiring diagrams are s**t compared to the factory ford wiring layout .. they are much better!! Buy the manuals or see if you can borrow some.

Wow.

Are you going to use the factory PCM to get this to work? Because, if you are, there are HEAPS of interdependencies that you'd need to be aware of.

The Instrument Cluster uses the CAN bus to read data from engine sent by the PCM and other sensors (even the ABS Module) for RPM/Speed. Lots of stuff shown on the Instrument Cluster comes from this 'CAN Bus' communication, although not all.

But the big one I see is that the PCM requires that the BEM unlock it to disablie immobilzation. And the BEM requires that it be unlocked by a valid code from the primary lock sent by a valid key. This stuff is all programmed at a dealer using a WDS tool, so you'd need to make sure you had access to a valid OBD2 port which is usually in the fuse box.

I'm thinking you might be better with an aftermarket ECU.

OK ill try get my head round everything you said

But why after market ECU?

if i am using most things off a BF, should there really be major problems with the read outs and things working together?

Im talking about taking everything from a BF and putting it into my car like a 'donor body'. The fuse box, BEM, interior loom, engine loom, even change the locks and key barrel so that i use a BA/BF key.

1 thing i would love to do is use those boot hinges from an AU/BA and take away the arms on the EF/EL boots. But thats another seperate battle if and when i look into it.

But shouldnt everything still work together seeing as it was working together before?

I will point out some of the things i prob wont change:
- Power window motors & wiring (im guessing these should be ok)
- Fuel Door/Boot Release
- Interior lighting
- ABS (Im guessing it works the same as before or can be changed)
- Air Bag sensor (can be changed if it comes with the loom)
- Air Con piping

Im looking at doing a full conversion, not just half half, but please correct me if im wrong! 8-)
