Months back now I had the distinct displeasure of having to remove my whole dash back to the bare firewall to fix a busted pedal box. Ever since, the fan speed on my heater/ac either works or it doesn't. - ie it only works on flat out/boost.
Anyone got any ideas before I start pulling my dash to pieces. AGAIN.

possibly the fan speed controller block is either dead or not plugged in

Which part is the heater box - that whole module with the fan speed, heat range, AC buttons etc ? or something more specific under the dash ?

you can find the fan speed controller behind the glovebox in the heater box. if the car has climate control it is silver and if it hasnt got climate its black and has a white plug that plugs into it.

So how do I get to it ? Lay upside down in the foot well ? Remove the glovebox ? Please tell me I dont have to remove the dash again...

no you just have to remove the glove box. i would think you have forgotton to plug the fan controller in.

Quite possibly, it was an ordeal trying to do it all myself and balance everything so I may have missed it.
That's an easy fix though, hopefully that's it. Back in 10

OK, I had a look but everything looks to be plugged in.
Here's a pic, this is where I should be looking right ? Which plug in particular ? Cheers

Ok the fan speed resister is plugged in. if you follow the wiring from the resister to behind the dash (it has the white tag with the part number that starts with 94DA.........) it will go to a white plug make sure this is plugged in.

The resistor wiring disappears behind the back of the dash pretty much where you see it in that photo and I can't trace it out any further.
I pulled the front of the dash out here where I assume it runs to: but everything seems to be plugged in... After testing it all, I found that the selector to between windscreen, face, feet etc doesnt work either - what ever you select it stays on the windscreen. Most likely related I'm guessing. Does that provide any other clues ?

that wiring goes behind the dash it turns towards the top of the dash then goes to a plug i have seen a lot of people forget to plug this in . you will need to follow it to the white plug and make sure its connected. you could also pull the fan speed resister out and make sure its not burnt out. if not anyone else got any ideas????

hmm... the selection from windscreen to feet to face etc works on vacuum, so for that to fail AND your elec fan switch to fail at the same time would be a bit strange ... it all worked before you pulled it apart?

I think the windscreen, feet, etc selector has only packed it in recently. I'm pretty sure it was working previously when the fan speed control wasn't...
And yeah, prior to removing the whole dash everything worked. Being the sort of person I am, if it wasnt for it being stuck on windscreen I'd probably just solder a variable resistor into the fan speed power line and control it manually via a pot mounted up on my dash.

HZA! All fixed
XR8 Dis you were right, it was the white plug not plugged in properly. I had a look through the slot that the glove box hinges on and could see the white plug, only was half hanging out. I pulled on the wire and it came right out so it took me about 15 minutes to get it back in. I could only get 2 fingers through that slot in the plastic, they're sore and cut now but its back running so I'm happy When i plugged it back in my speed controls and the windscreen, feet etc came back also. It must have been half for a while and recently it's come out all together so both the speed and selector didnt work. Another fordmods sucess story ! Thanks guys
