Hi all,
I am hoping someone can help me. After driving out of the carwash this afternoon I found that the left indicator flashes like ther eis no tomorrow, The RHS is normal. does anyone know what might be causing this (i am asuming that it is a relay or something). I installed a trip computer the other day using the tech doc from fordmods. It seems to work fine so I dont think that is the prom. Any help appreciated |

are all the exterior indicators still flashing? (a blown globe will make them flash real quick)

First thing I checked. All Flashing ok (on the LHS anyway). I will have a check on the RHS though.

some times maybe just a dirty contact. take the bulbs out, wipe the contact then put them back in. sometimes this helps

if that doesnt work, just replace the flasher relay (its where all the fuses are above your right knee behind a panel)

Yeah that sounds like it since all the lights are ok. The 'thermal' part of the flasher realy is most likely dead.

Any help appreciated This is a very common problem on EA and some EB models. It usually has nothing to do with the relay. So don’t buy a new one before testing the old one to make sure it is faulty. Sometimes all you have to do is to clean the “inside†of your Indicator lever assy. For that you would need access to an air compressor with an air gun. Push your lever up, then blow inside the opening that is under the lever (right towards the middle /inside of your steering wheel, so to say). Push the lever down and do the same again on top of the lever. Repeat this, a couple of times and see if it helps. If not, you may need to disassemble the indicator lever assy. And maybe use some anti-corrosion spray or methylated spirits to clean all the contacts inside the assy. properly. Make sure that the battery is disconnected and that you blow dry everything carefully so all parts are completely dry. Be careful so you don’t blow away any bits of the connectors. The reason that it is always the LHS, is because all the dust falls down on connectors for the left indicator which are on the bottom of the assy.

OK here is what happened
Checked the contacts on the globes: nothing Blew out the dust inj the indicator assembly: nothing Hooked up a trailer and hey presto the indicator flashes normally. It seem that on the flap that keeps the dust out of the trailer connestion is like a contact on two of the pins. I figure that on of the contact that rests on the pin was not caontacting proper hence the indicator flashing fast. Thanks for your feed back guys. |
